1. What this is
boab is a visualisation tool for personal and family cashflow. You type in what
you expect to come in and go out; it expands that into a dated ledger and draws the resulting
balance. It is arithmetic on the figures and assumptions you supply. It connects to no
bank, verifies nothing, and knows nothing about your actual accounts.
2. It is not advice
Nothing here is financial, investment, tax, legal or accounting advice, and nothing here is a
financial product or a recommendation to acquire one. No account is taken of your objectives,
financial situation or needs, because none of that is known. Figures, categories, budget
frameworks and any book referenced are general information only. Before acting, consider getting
advice from a licensed professional who can look at your actual circumstances.
3. Supplied “as is”
boab is supplied as is and as available, without warranty of any kind,
express or implied — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular
purpose, accuracy, completeness or uninterrupted availability. It may contain errors. A projection
is not a prediction: it is what your own assumptions imply, and reality will differ.
4. Your decisions and actions are yours
You are solely responsible for every decision you make and every action you take or don't take,
whether or not this tool informed it. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the author is not
liable for any loss or damage of any kind — direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or loss
of profit, savings or data — arising from your use of, or reliance on, this tool or its output.
That includes, without limitation, missed or mistimed payments, overdrafts, dishonour or late
fees, interest, forfeited discounts, borrowing, investment, spending or saving decisions, and any
loss or corruption of the data you enter.
5. Your data lives on your device
What you enter is stored by your browser on your own device. Your figures are never sent to the
author or to any server. That also means nobody can recover them for you: clearing your browser
data, using a private window, or losing the device destroys them. Keeping a backup is your
responsibility — use Download data (.json). A share link encodes your figures into the link
itself, so treat any link you create as if it were the numbers: anyone who has it can read them.
6. Cookies and analytics
boab sets no cookies. The page loads Google Analytics to count visits, and it is configured
storage-less: the tag is told not to write a client identifier to a cookie or to any other
storage, and Google's advertising and personalisation signals are switched off. What is still
sent, as with any request to any website, is the ordinary content of the request itself — page
address, referrer, browser and device type, and the IP address the request came from, which
Google uses to infer an approximate location — subject to Google's own terms and privacy policy.
The financial data you enter is never part of that, and nothing about analytics is stored on your
device.
Separately from analytics, the document you build is kept in your browser's local storage on
your own device, as described in section 5. That is not a cookie and it is never transmitted.
7. Affiliate links
Some book links are Amazon Associates links, and the author earns a commission from qualifying
purchases at no extra cost to you. A link is not an endorsement, a review, or a recommendation
that the book suits you.
8. Third parties
Budget frameworks referred to here — the Barefoot buckets, the Conscious Spending Plan,
50/30/20 — are the work of their respective authors. This tool is not affiliated with, endorsed
by, or sponsored by any of them, and its groupings are one interpretation, not their official one.
9. Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have
under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where
liability can be limited rather than excluded, the author's liability is limited, at the author's
option, to supplying the tool again or paying the cost of having it supplied again — noting that
the tool is supplied free of charge.
10. Changes
These terms may change. The current version is the one in the copy of the application you are
running; continuing to use it means you accept it. If you don't accept these terms, don't use the
tool — and clear your data.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia.
